Voice-over needs different technique than singing: less room, more focus on articulation, steady level and gaps between lines for editing. Misfiredexa in Oud-West sets the booth for spoken word, not long musical takes.
We handle agency copy, internal training or self-written podcast and audiobook text. After the session you receive raw or lightly edited WAVs; broadcast loudness can go through mastering if you need one consistent target level.
Process
Script
Send text with pronunciation notes and desired file names. Long scripts are split into blocks with regular water breaks.
Mic
Directional mic, pop filter, gain for consistent speech level. Headphones with low latency so you hear your own tone.
Record
Line by line or paragraph by paragraph; retakes for tricky words. Engineer flags good takes and retake requests.
Export
Separate files per chapter or spot, 24-bit WAV. Optional light cleanup on breaths between sentences.
Booth and environment
The voice-over booth is about 6 m² with absorption tuned for speech. Outside the booth we keep the control room quiet: no unnecessary visitors during takes, phones silenced. That suits e-learning and corporate narration where every silence is audible.
The studio is at Eerste Helmersstraat 78 in Amsterdam; Tram 13 stops at Eerste Helmersstraat; from that stop it is about a 2-minute walk to number 78. From Amsterdam Centraal, tram 13 towards Amsterdam Sloterdijk takes roughly 15 minutes. By bike from Leidseplein it is about 7 minutes via Overtoom and De Clercqstraat.. Hours: Monday–Friday 11:00–20:00, Saturday 10:00–16:00. Closed on Sunday.. Full directions and nearby parking are on contact.
Typical uses
- Radio and online spots (15, 30, 60 seconds)
- Internal training and e-learning modules
- Audiobook chapters and podcast intros
- IVR lines and voicemail prompts
- Multilingual variants when you record each language yourself
Music under voice-over is not part of the booth fee by default; ask for mixing if you want a finished spot mix.
Different from vocal recording
Vocal recording often uses another mic preset and a more musical cue mix. Voice-over is about intelligibility: clear consonants, no plosive overs, steady distance to the grille. If you need both singing and VO, book separate blocks so setup time does not eat the budget.
We treat sensitive content professionally; minimum age 16 unless agreed in writing with a parent or guardian.
Preparing copy
Send the script as PDF or Word with page numbers, brand pronunciation and numbers (e.g. how to read “2026”). Mark desired pace: calm instructional or energetic commercial. Say whether the client listens remotely or in the control room.
Two or three reference recordings help us match tone without imitation. No script? We cannot improvise your brand message — write copy upfront or hire a writer.
For e-learning, split long sentences in the text itself; short lines retake faster and sync more easily with slides. Note pronunciation of abbreviations and English loanwords in Dutch copy so there is no debate during recording.
Multiple cut-downs (15s, 30s, 60s)? Deliver them as separate sections in one document; we label takes per version so editing stays tidy later.
During the session
The engineer manages level and plosives; you focus on delivery. We prefer an extra retake over keeping a line with swallowed words. Long e-learning means normal breaks; the €280 rate covers up to two hours of raw recording.
Need more time? Hourly €78 or extension by agreement. Free cancellation up to 4 days ahead per terms.
When you record several spots in one visit we plan short resets between scripts so energy and articulation stay even. Drink water between blocks; the engineer will flag it if pace speeds up unintentionally through fatigue.
Delivery and naming
Default: mono or stereo WAV 24-bit/48 kHz per agreed segment. File names follow your convention (e.g. Module3_Paragraph2_take01.wav). We do not supply video sync unless you provide timecode or a guide track.
Raw stays archived 24 months at Misfiredexa B.V.; download via link. See privacy policy for retention.
